Skyscraper Ad - How To Discuss

By Sophia Vance |

Skyscraper Ad

Definition

Significantly larger online ad than a 120×240 vertical banner.

Information

Skyscraper ads are large, very large, between 500 and 800 pixels high (and 120 to 160 pixels wide). For a long time there were no standard sizes that buyers and sellers adhere to. This turned skyscraper ads into large, well-branded provincial sites that could sell custom ad packages.

Meanwhile, the IAB announced standard sizes for skyscraper ads. A standard skyscraper is 120 x 600, while a wide skyscraper is 160 x 600. Now that standards are in place, skyscraper ads are becoming more common on ad networks.

Skyscraper ads are often referred to as skyscraper banners, although some examples mimic the look of a banner using a combination of button and text ads.
