Salt Water Humidifier - How To Discuss

By Rachel Davis |

Salt Water Humidifier

What is the humidity in a humidifier?

I heard that some people put salt in the humidifier and I just bought a new Vicks hot humidifier to help my son get rid of his cough. Accompanying documents indicate that salt may be added if desired. What is salt used for?

update

I thought I should tell my son that he has a cold and I use a humidifier to help him relax. And if there is no improvement after about a week, we go to our doctor. I promise silence !!!

Salt is for evaporation.

Vapor heats the water and produces steam. The humidifier divides the water into fog or evaporates the water. Both moisturize the air. The steam generator heats the room because it produces steam. The humidifier has a cool fog and does not heat the room.

In steam, two electrodes in the water heat the water to produce steam. Since water needs electricity to do this, you cannot use distilled water. Water-soluble minerals (electrolytes) are required. The more mineral water there is, the more electricity it provides and the more steam it produces. Therefore, if the vaporizer does not produce much steam, add salt to the water.

Your hot air humidifier is technically a vaporizer. Like cold fog vapors, they are technically humidifiers.

Salt is not theater and it is not steam.

In steam, two electrodes in the water heat the water to produce steam. Since water must run on electricity to do this, you cannot use distilled water. Water requires dissolved minerals (electrolytes). The more minerals there are in water, the more electricity is distributed and the more steam is produced. So if your vaporizer doesn't produce much steam, add salt to the water.

This humidifier does not have a heating element, because when water reaches the electrode, there is a contact between the two elements, which triggers the heat. Because water itself generates electricity (contrary to assumptions), it requires contaminants, such as salt, to connect it.

Well, salt irrigation cleans the sinuses, which is probably why it is useful in humidifiers / vaporizers.

Or, like boiling water, adding salt can reduce the boiling point and produce steam more quickly.

Here are just speculations ...

Salt adds more steam.

Why not find the cause of the cough? Is it asthma or allergies?

Cough is an attempt to clear the airways. If there is mucus, dust, dirt or other inflammatory substances in the airways, it is a good idea to clean them. The cough goes away. A non-profit cough that does not clear mucus is not common and can be a sign of asthma.

Allergic asthma can occur. You may be allergic to painkillers that cause you to cough in the environment. In one application, the highest concentration of particles was in and around the bed.

Sleeping with pets can also cause allergies and asthma. I do not recommend.

In my opinion, a humidifier turns into a bacterial propagator within a few months.

Are you trying to find the cause of your cough?
