Mobile Satellite Services (MSS)

Mobile Satellite Services (MSS) provides two-way voice and data communications for users around the world, whether on the road or in remote locations. Terminals range in size from portable devices to laptops. The terminals can also be installed in a vehicle, maintaining communication while the vehicle is in motion. MSS operates in the L band, which is low enough in the frequency spectrum to avoid the rain blur associated with higher bandwidth fixed satellite systems in the Ku and Ka bands. (Note: Ku and Ka bands are used for a limited number of similar applications, but usually have much larger terminals, the more focused beams also cause the terminal to track the satellite.)
