Definition of Intertropical convergence zone (ITZ):

1. A narrow zone near the equator where northern and southern air masses converge, typically producing low atmospheric pressure.

2. Weather phenomenon formed when trade winds converge in tropics and rise to form rain (nimbus) clouds. ITZ is characterized by heavy rainfall and is responsible for most of the precipitation in Africa.
