Definition of Double bind:

1. Predicament in which two possible choices are equally unacceptable or unpleasant. A dilemma, in comparison, may require a choice between two equally unpleasant or pleasant alternatives.

2. Situation where a subordinate receives contradictory messages or signals from a superior and cannot find a clue or precedent to decide what he or she really means.
