Dissolved oxygen (DO) - How To Discuss
By Andrew Mckinney |
Dissolved oxygen (DO),
Definition of Dissolved oxygen (DO):
The amount of oxygen dissolved in aquatic bodies such as solvents, rivers or streams (and therefore available to support marine life). OD is the most important indicator of the health of the water body and its ability to maintain the balance of the ecosystem of plants and animals. Dirty water containing organic pollutants (which use oxygen) consumes dissolved oxygen and can kill marine organisms.
How to use Dissolved oxygen (DO) in a sentence?
- General Information Dissolved oxygen (DO) is essential for the health of rivers and lakes. The level of dissolved oxygen can indicate water pollution and its ability to sustain the life of aquatic animals and plants. In general, higher levels of dissolved oxygen indicate better water quality. If the level of dissolved oxygen is too low, some fish and other organisms cannot survive. Most of the oxygen dissolved in water comes from atmospheric oxygen dissolved in water. Most of the dissolved oxygen in water is the result of photosynthesis in aquatic plants. Photosynthesis produces a high DO content in sunny, algae or plant dense areas. The turbulence in the flow can also increase the level of dissolved oxygen as the air is trapped under the water rapidly and the oxygen in the air dissolves in the water. The temperature of the water also affects the level of dissolved oxygen. Cold water may contain more oxygen than hot water. However, differences in oxygen levels can be seen at the test site.
- Dissolved oxygen is present in the values measured after scientific experiments. I like the friendly living environment.
- When you go fishing, look for dissolved oxygen lakes and the fish will be healthier.
