citation - How To Discuss

By Christopher Davis |

Co-citation

The number of times two websites are mentioned at the same time by a third party website. These two pages may not be linked or referenced from each other. It is a tool used by search engines to determine the correspondence between content and subject matter.

Citation is a similarity measurement method used to determine whether one object is similar to another based on the fact that an external source references both objects in the same document.

In a nutshell, if web pages A and B are quoted by web page C, we can say that A and B are related to each other even though they are not directly related to each other.

It is believed that search engines can guess matches between pages A and B based on the number of quotes from various third-party sources and rank the pages based on these signals.

How often two websites (or web pages) are listed together on a third-party website, even if the first two items are unrelated (or unrelated) to each other. This allows search engines to determine the similarity of subjects.
