Canonical Link
A canonical link is a link added to a page's code metadata that indicates which major version of that page it is in order to focus the link juice on the page and avoid duplicate content penalties. For example, if a website sells shoes and lists them in different categories, the same page may appear multiple times on the website, eg.
In this case, it's a good idea to mark one version of the page as canonical (that is, the version that appears in search results) and add a canonical link tag to versions of the page that reference it.
You also need to add a canonical link to the canonical page itself (ie, page A with a canonical link pointing to page A). Many people claim that every page has a canonical link, and when they refer to the page they are on, it is assumed that it has an auto-canonical link.
