Definition of Accelerated life test (ALT):

1. A method for stress-testing manufactured products that attempts to duplicate in a shorter time period the normal wear and tear that would normally be experienced over the usable lifetime of the product. Accelerated life testing is used to identify and resolve product weaknesses that would eventually be experienced by the customer.
